EP: From The Black And Blue // MisterNothing

Hailing from Birmingham, MisterNothing are a 3-piece band set to release their third EP entitled From The Black And Blue. The band, consisting of vocalist/guitarist Mitchel Emms, guitarist John Wilcox and drummer James Harle create a unique concoction of music which displays the bands unmistakable influences of Biffy Clyro, Twin Atlantic and Foo Fighters perfectly. The band have had a busy past two years, gaining recognition with Mitchel Emms competing in The Voice UK 2013 and completing their two previous EP’s with a smattering of gigs thrown in. The album’s title reflects on the bands journey in these past couple of years and the sacrifices taken in order to get where they are.

The short and sweet 3-track-long EP opens with the energetic ‘Goodbye, Hello’. An introduction to the band, the song showcases their distinctive and alternative sound. With a resilient and pounding melody, the gritty lyrics ‘can’t think or can’t hide, can’t sleep no more’ are repeated throughout the chorus forming a track that is destined to be a real crowd pleaser.

‘Improvements’ enters with a punch. Slipping over to the more pop-punk side, Emm’s powerful vocals cut through the potent instrumentals with fluidity. The development from ‘you don’t know me better than I do’ to ‘only you know me better than I do’ give off vibes of emotional clashes and conflict delivered with a strong and individual feel, a brilliant mix for a potential hit.

Closing the EP with ‘Destinations’, a sampled speech opens the track centred on progress and development, taking risks and urging the listener to ‘jump in the abyss/ jump into the unknown’, ‘fall away from the places you call home’. More emotionally stimulating than the previous two songs, it is still charged with the electric energy that MisterNothing seem to create with ease.

From The Black And Blue is released on June 29th courtesy of LMC Records, featuring an added bonus track.
